Beyond immediate responses, PUÑO works to build solidarity, educate neighbors about rights, and support mutual aid networks — helping strengthen long-term resilience and community capacity.
Sign up for a Migra Watch training at bit.ly/migrawatchtraining! You will learn how to document ICE activity to provide legal evidence in the case of a detainment and get connected to the Rapid Response Migra Watch network. The training is great to have in case you witness ICE activity in your daily life. We also encourage you to sign up for Migra Watch shifts if possible to help track ICE operations and respond to sightings as they occur.
If you haven’t done Migra Watch training or are unable to sign up for Migra Watch shifts, we always need volunteers to help with other aspects of Pilsen Rapid Response. You can fill out the form here bit.ly/pilsenmigrawatch and one of our onboarding committee members will reach out to you and help find a place where your unique talents can make a difference!
PUÑO does not provide direct legal representation, but it connects community members with legal resources and organizations that offer immigration, defense, and civil rights support.
Pilsen Unidos (PUÑO) is a community-based organizing project focused on educating neighbors about their rights, connecting them to resources, and mobilizing collective responses to threats and needs across the Pilsen and broader Chicago area
Anyone committed to supporting community safety, rights awareness, and mutual aid is welcome! Whether you want to participate in Migra Watch, volunteer with resource distribution, or help with outreach and canvassing, there are many ways to get involved.
Some roles (like Migra Watch shifts) require training to ensure safety and effectiveness. If you haven’t done training yet, you can still volunteer in other areas — just fill out our interest form and a team member will help you find the right fit.
Safety guidance, legal rights information, and communication protocols are shared during trainings. Volunteers are encouraged to work in pairs or small teams and stay in contact with leadership during shifts.
